Ambitions & Motivation

Motivation is one of the most important things we have to master in our emotional toolkit.  We need to be master of it, not be a slave to it.

When you have the motivation you need, you are pulled forward, out of bed each day, into the day, into work, it pulls the best out of you, and everything changes.  When you lose motivation, the first gate to suffering opens and momentum stops.

First … you don’t feel like doing anything, you don’t feel like working out, you don’t want to act on your goals, you then start to feel unfulfilled, and unsatisfied.

Motivation is something we have to generate on a continual basis, and it is fuelled by our ATTENTION and by our MOMENTUM. We want to be able to generate the emotions of drive, desire, diligence —whatever you want to call motivation.  We want to help you generate and master the emotion you need to move forward powerfully.

It all starts with YOUR AMBITIONS!

All motivation begins with a desire or a hunger and ambition for more.   That could be more love, more connection, more skills, more knowledge, more abundance or wealth, more joy, we just want more of something and you want to go get it.  That want for more is our ambitions.  So the first step is you need to be clear about what ambitions you have.

If you are not clear on your ambitions, or if you cannot see the finish line then how can you be motivated. Let me give you an example of a vague outcome… “I want to be a good vet” … It is really hard to be motivated “to be a good vet” when you don’t even know what that means or looks like.  It is easier to be motivated to be a “vet that is confident, knowledgeable and capable about a specific topic that interests you” because it is clear and you can visualise it and see it.

QUESTION:  What is it that you really want to achieve in your life and career?

Motivation wanes with a lack of attention to your ambitions.  Meaning, if we don’t give our ambitions, and our goals a lot of attention, the motivation we get from being connected with them just dissipates away.

To generate motivation, you have to connect deeply with what you want. So you have to really explore and understand “why you must achieve it and the IMPACT of doing so on you, your team and your loved ones”. Also, perhaps a more telling question is what is the impact on you and your quality of life if you don’t do it, if you remain the same without growth.

This will help you create that pull, that future pull, that will motivate you to keep moving forward in the right direction.

Once you are able to connect with your ambitions, and feel that pull and go back to it repeatedly, you’ll start to notice a difference in how you feel and the actions you take.
